Whop NFT Auth

What permissions am I granting to Whop with my wallet and Discord?

When connecting a crypto wallet to Whop, there are certain permissions we need to access in order to verify your ownership of tokens.
When connecting your wallet to Whop (MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, etc), you may see a dialog box detailing certain permissions you are grating to Whop.
The standard Whop MetaMask authentication dialog
While it may seem like you are giving Whop full control of your wallet, that is not the case. This authorization of your wallet is a read-only connection. We simply need the permission to interact with your NFTs smart contract as a means of verifying ownership. We can not initiate sending crypto or tokens out of your wallet.
A simple ETH signature helps us verify your ownership of your NFTs
If you feel uncomfortable or would rather discontinue using our platform, you can revoke Whop's connection to your wallet at any time in your "Connected sites" settings.
*PS: If you are concerned about the “initiate transactions” permission, you can learn more about that here. This is a recent update MetaMask pushed, and it does NOT mean we can do anything without your approval. It’s simply the permission that allows transactions to pop up on your screen. Whop auth only uses read-only transactions to verify ownership of an NFT.

Discord permissions

After verifying ownership of your NFT via your wallet, there are certain Discord permissions we need to be able to assign you the proper roles.
The breakdown of the following perms are:
  1. 1.
Access your username, avatar, and banner
    1. 1.
This is a standard Discord auth perm that gives us a general overview of your account. This is how we know to associate your wallet address with your Discord username/ID.
  2. 2.
    Know what servers you're in
    1. 1.
This allows us to know whether or not you're in the server you're trying to verify access to so we know whether or not we need to programmatically add your account to the Discord server.
  3. 3.
    Join servers for you
    1. 1.
People can now verify without actually having to be in your Discord. This allows projects to keep their Discord locked if they'd like or more secure. After you verify your NFT Whop can automatically add you to the Small Bros Discord with the proper role.
    2. 2.
We're adding the ability for projects to allocate whitelist spots to other projects on Whop. With that, once users are picked from the raffle Whop will be able to automatically add them to the new projects Discord server with the proper roles. This will eliminate the need to go back and forth whenever people win WL spots.
Feel free to open a ticket in our business client-server here to help address any concerns with any of the permissions stated above.
